Christmas Magic

Hi, Friends!!
The Christmas magic has entered our home!!! The trees are up, the decorations are out, the lights outside have been hung.

We have even had a Santa sighting in our home.

Oh, yes. FIVE A.M. on Tuesday morning. Yep. Brenna woke us out of a sound sleep, yelling, "MOM!!! DAD!!!!" "I heard JINGLE BELLS!!!" "He's here. He's HERE."

Really, Santa?
Being the loving mom I am, I said, (without opening my eyes.) "No, Brenna. It's too early for Santa. It's not Christmas Eve."

Her reply:
"NO. MOM. HE'S HERE."
"CAN I GO DOWNSTAIRS AND CHECK???????"

Again, being the loving mom I am, I answer (Without opening my eyes. They are pretty much glued shut.) "I. Don't. CARE."

My sweet husband got up with her. I still didn't open my eyes. Sometime later, he came back to bed. "Apparently he waved at her" was his statement.

Being the loving wife I am, I muttered, "Nice." And promptly fell back asleep.
Later, (not much) Brenna gave us the low-down during breakfast.

Here is the gist of our conversation:
Me: "So, B." "You saw Santa, huh?"
B: "Yep." "I was singing Christmas songs and then I heard the jingle bells on the roof."
I looked at Doug.
"She had been up singing Christmas songs???"
Doug: "Don't you remember she woke me up at 4 to fix her blanket?"
I sighed. How long had this kid been up??
Doug turned to Brenna: "What did he look like?"
B: " He had a hat, and a black belt and a red coat and boots."

Me: "Brenna, don't you think it's a little early to be seeing Santa? It's not Christmas yet."
B: "No Mom."
 (interpretation: DUH, Mom.)
Me: "Well, what was he doing here??"
B: "Checking out our tree."

So much for my stupid question. She had me on that one.

Being me, I kept going. "Well, did he like it?"
B: "Yep."
WHEW.
I mean, really. If I'm going to be graded this year, I'm glad he at least liked the tree.

I think by this point, Doug just rolled his eyes and left for work.

Later that day, I learned she told everyone at school. Buddies, students, teachers, office staff, you name it. They all knew Brenna had seen Santa "in the middle of the night."

People thought it was pretty cool. I guess he doesn't visit everyone's trees.

Who knew?

  7. I thought everyone sang Christmas carols at four in the morning! Brenna is so sweet I wish could reach across the miles and hug her. Of course, I'm not the one she's waking in the wee hours of the morning. LOL!

Its good to hear that your tree passed muster. The rest of your decorations are just beautiful too.

I'm back in blogland with a new post about my own decorating adventures. Stop over if you get the chance.

    Big hugs,
    Susan

  8. Brenna is SUPER lucky. I stayed up listening for bells for years and never even heard a peep. But that's part of what makes Christmas exciting.
I love your ornament tower (for lack of a better name). It's so colorful and shiny. I'm the Cub Master for my son's Cub Scout troop, and one of our cheers is the "snow globe cheer." To do it you pretend to shake an imaginary snow globe and then say, "Ooo, aaaah, pretty." All your decorations definitely deserve a snow globe cheer.
    Merry Christmas,

  10. Lynn,
Thank you for making me laugh, dear heart! That is such a funny story and I love your tongue-in-cheek humor of being such a good wife and mother! Guess we all don't succeed at doing those roles perfectly but you make it sound so funny.
Love the pictures. They are beautiful! We are in Stanford right now. More on my blog and Jud's Caring Bridge. Haven't had time to do the fun things you suggested but we are heading up north for two days to see some old friends. I am really looking forward to that time together!
    Love,
    Suz
P.S. We may be back for the fun in January, A little up in the air.

  14. Sweet innocence. Remember being THAT excited about Christmas? Santa never came to my house...well once on Carpenter Ave. Just ask Susie :-) Glad he liked your tree...what's not to like? I bet he went home and told his wife all about it. I know the elves were pretty excited to hear his story of the Richard's house. And the little girl named Virginia...um, I mean Brenna. Gotta love her :-)))) And Christmas.Fa la la la la, la la la la! The end....
