Dictionary Banner

With my new dictionary collection, I am having fun doing things with these beautiful pages.
Remember this?

I bought these pre-cut at our local scrapbooking store and sewed the triangles together. It's pretty, but I thought I could come up with something a little more.

I took my "new" dictionary and began cutting out the pages. I used an exacto knife and ran it down the edge next to the binding.

I put on the movie, "Secretariat" and began cutting triangles with my Fiskar's cutter. Have you seen the movie? It's great!!
I ran the triangles through my sewing machine-which, by the way, I figured out how to work!! Then I added strips of muslin.

And added some sweet multi-layered flowers at each end.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for photographing banners???

Next round, I will add a double layer:

Have a happy day!

  3. Love those groovy flowers!!!

Since I pretty much operate in the macro range, I have no suggestions for banner photos.......

But I'm sure you will figure it out!

  4. Lynn,
That is wonderful. You will have to tell me how to work your machine with paper. I have not a clue!

    That is adorable!!!

We are in Palo Alto. Big tests start tomorrow. We think I have shingles on my face so I am quarantined from my honey!

    Love you, friend!

  5. I had been anticipating this. I love it and want to copy. I decided while reading this that I need to do what you do and set aside specific crafting time. (That was a random thought, but I throw it in anyway)

As to photographing? Widen your margins so that your pictures are big enough to show a big shot.

I finally did that last week with my blog updating.

Of course, since then I have yet to take a picture, but I digress.

  7. Too cute! I love the soft edge that the muslin provides and the sweet touch of Spring the flowers add is just lovely. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Sorry, no tips for photographing your creation. But I think you are already capturing it's sweetness.

    Hugs,
    Susan

  9. Fabulous banner, Lynn! The little flowers are perfect for spring! I'm pretty much a macro girl too, so unfortunately, I've not a lot of tips on photographing your banner. To be honest, I think you did a really good job of it! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  10. This is so cute! What a great idea, love that you'll double them up too. I'd try shooting it from the side with the wide angle then crop to cut out what you don't want to see.

Is blogger acting up for you? Your comment section seems wonky but it's acting up for me so it might be on my end.

  13. Hi Lynn! I told you my son is obsessed with the dictionary, right? He would love this! Maybe we need to have a dictionary themed birthday for him...although that sounds just slightly nerdy, huh? :-)
